The visit of Donald Dux to the Kingdom of the Angles, Saxons, Britons, Picts and Scots, about which I have already told you, came ever closer. As was his custom, Donald made a great pronouncement, in which he said that the kingdom should make Boris, Son of John, the new Mayor of the Palace and send Count Nigellus the Fool to negotiate with the Western Empire. This filled many of the Angles, especially, with great joy, for they are a simple folk. But others, notably the Picts, were enraged, for Donald had acquired an estate in their lands in dubious fashion, as was his way. Nigellus, moreover had said that there should be no negotiation with the Empire, as this would be the best way of negotiating. Nigellus often spoke in riddles like this, which made the rustics think he was very wise. Others saw that he was a master of fatuous talk and that the words came from his nether regions. Donald also claimed that he was greatly loved by the Angles, Saxons, Britons, Picts and Scots. This filled all with confusion and many wondered what the hell he was on about, as they say in that country.
